Our SchoolCouncils and Leaders

House Captains
At KSM, every pupil belongs to one of our four Houses: Romans, Tudors, Saxons and Vikings. Each House is led by two Year 6 House Captains, who are chosen through a pupil voting process. Children who wish to be considered are invited to submit an application, and their peers vote for the candidates who they feel would best represent them.
House Captains are expected to be positive role models who demonstrate the qualities their peers admire and trust. They take on an important leadership role within the school, showing dedication, organisation and a commitment to setting an excellent example for others.
Throughout the year, House Captains play a key part in promoting school events—such as open days and sports days—encouraging and motivating their House members, and supporting staff where needed. They uphold high standards of behaviour, model resilience and hard work, and promote a caring, inclusive school environment. They are also encouraged to look out for children who may need extra help or encouragement.
School Council
Our School Council empowers children to take responsibility for themselves and their school community by giving them a meaningful voice in school life. Through their work, pupils make a positive contribution to the school’s environment, ethos and continuous improvement.
The Council helps to foster a strong sense of belonging and supports the development of responsible citizenship. It encourages teamwork and strengthens speaking and listening skills, while promoting key learning behaviours such as resilience, reciprocity, reflection and resourcefulness.
Worship Council
Our Worship Council was established in January 2013. As a Church of England school, we aim to support our whole school community in understanding, valuing and enjoying opportunities to worship God. Members of the Worship Council are elected by their classmates and work together to help shape and enrich our worship life in school.
Sports Prefects
Sports Prefects at KSM play an important leadership role in promoting sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles across the school. They support teachers during PE lessons, assist with whole-school sporting events, and help ensure that Sports Days run smoothly.
During break and lunchtime, Sports Prefects help to organise games, set up and look after equipment, and lead activities that encourage fair play, teamwork and enjoyment. They aim to make sport accessible and fun for everyone, ensuring that all pupils feel welcome to join in and try new activities. At KSM, there is a sport or activity for everyone!
Sports Prefects also have opportunities to develop their leadership skills further by attending Sport Ambassador training through the Chippenham Sports Partnership, as well as referee training.
Sports Prefects are elected by their peers and work closely with our PE Subject Leader to support sport across the whole school.
