Wiltshire Council also operate a spare seats scheme. Where spare seats exist on school bus or taxi contracts arranged by Wiltshire Council, they can sometimes be made available at a charge to pupils who would not be entitled to free transport to that school. Bus Prefects
At KSM, our Bus Prefects support younger pupils who travel on the dedicated school bus each day, helping to make the journey safe, smooth and enjoyable.
Bus Prefects are elected annually and take on an important leadership role. Their responsibilities include reporting any concerns to the Head Teacher, supporting other pupils when needed, and modelling safe behaviour on the bus, such as remaining seated and wearing seat belts at all times. They help younger pupils get on and off the bus safely, ensure they have all their belongings, and provide reassurance throughout the journey.
Parents and carers assist children with getting on the bus in the morning, and KSM staff help ensure seat belts are fastened on the return journey home.
The Duties of a Bus Prefect:
-
Be kind, thoughtful, helpful, well-mannered, trustworthy, respectful, and responsible
-
Display leadership qualities, confidence, and initiative
-
Support younger pupils and encourage positive behaviour on the bus
-
Report concerns or issues to the Headteacher
-
Recognise and report examples of positive behaviour
-
Wear a special Bus Prefect badge so that both the bus driver and fellow pupils can identify them
-
Bus Prefects play a vital role in keeping our school community safe, welcoming, and caring, both on and off the bus
